Local groups show ‘From the Ashes’ documentary

A handful of local activist groups have joined forces to present a free showing of the film, “From the Ashes.” This National Geographic documentary shows Americans in communities across the country as they wrestle with the legacy of the coal industry and what its future should be under the Trump Administration.

The film will be shown Thursday, October 5 at 7 p.m. at the Olympia Universal Unitarian Church, which is located at 2315 Division St. N.W. in Olympia.

From Appalachia to the Montana coal plant that provides 30 percent of Redmond’s power, the film goes beyond the rhetoric of the “war on coal” to present compelling and often heartbreaking stories about what’s at stake for our economy, health and climate. The film invites us to learn more about an industry on the edge and what it means for the lives of everyone involved, including ourselves.

The free screening is sponsored by Olympia Indivisible, The Sierra Club, Green Sanctuary — OUUC, the League of Women Voters of Thurston County, Great Old Broads for Wilderness and the Thurston Climate Action Team.
